    In Honkai: Star Rail, your team composition matters more than raw stats thanks to the Path system, which clearly defines each character's role. Whether you're deciding which five-star to pull for or which four-star to build, understanding who excels in each role will save you resources and frustration. Here's a role-focused tier guide to help you prioritize your investments.

    Healers: Keep Your Team Alive

    For healing, Luocha (5★, Abundance, Imaginary) is currently the best choice. His healing scales with Attack, so he deals respectable damage while healing passively. He can also clear debuffs, and with Eidolons, he grants party-wide attack buffs and shields. If you don't have him, Bailu (Abundance, Lightning) is a strong alternative. She applies Invigoration, which heals allies whenever they are hit, and her unique revive can save a downed teammate. Both are excellent, but Luocha offers more utility.

    Supports: Amplify Your Damage

    Yukong (Harmony, Imaginary) is the premier four-star support. Her Roaring Bowstrings passive provides flat attack buffs, and her ultimate boosts party-wide crit rate and crit damage. Since these buffs are fixed percentages, you don't need to build specific stats for her to be effective. Bronya (Harmony, Wind) is the top five-star support. Her skill, Combat Redeployment, dispels debuffs and grants an ally an immediate action with increased damage—perfect for supercharging a fast DPS like Seele. Her ultimate also gives a straightforward attack and crit damage boost to the whole party.

    Damage Dealers: Melt Enemies Fast

    For single-target damage, Seele (The Hunt, Quantum) is unmatched. She gains an extra turn with buffed damage after defeating an enemy or using her ultimate, and her skill boosts speed. Jing Yuan (Erudition, Lightning) excels at multi-target damage by building stacks on his Lightning Lord, which performs up to ten follow-up hits. Silver Wolf (Nihility, Quantum) is a versatile debuffer who can add a weakness type to an enemy—letting you bypass team restrictions—and apply defense, speed, or attack reductions.

    Frontline Survivability: Shields and Counters

    Gepard (Preservation, Ice) provides party-wide shields with his ultimate and can freeze enemies. He also has a self-revive, similar to Bailu, making him your best bet for all-round survivability. Clara (Destruction, Physical) is a follow-up attack machine: whenever she takes damage, her guardian Svarog counters, and her ultimate baits enemy attacks while providing team-wide counter overwatch.

    Characters to Use with Caution

    Herta (Erudition, Ice) is only effective when enemies are below 50% HP, making her weak against bosses. Arlan (Destruction, Lightning) trades HP for damage and is risky without strong healing or shields. These characters can work in niche teams but aren't recommended for general use.

    Free Characters and the Pity System

    You'll receive six free characters through story progression and missions: March 7th, Dan Heng, Asta, Herta, Natasha, and Qingque. Each fills a basic role and can help you early on. The warp system uses pity: a guaranteed five-star after 90 warps on any banner, with an extra guarantee on the standard banner that lets you pick a five-star of your choice after 300 warps. Upcoming characters like Kafka and Luca (both rumored) may shift the meta, but for now, focus on role-fit over raw power.

    Oneiric Shard: Usage and Acquisition

    Oneiric Shards are a premium currency used to upgrade Valkyries and Stigmata, and they can be purchased directly from official game trading platforms or third-party top-up services.
