Primal Lords Guide: Survive Alpha Bear – Team Tips

    Primal Lords are world bosses that appear on your server map at timed intervals. Your entire server fights them together, and you earn rewards for each individual attack as well as a bonus when the boss is defeated. The second Primal Lord, Alpha Bear, is especially dangerous because it deals constant high damage to your entire team. If your heroes die, they stop dealing damage entirely, so survivability becomes your top priority.

    Here’s the reality check: Alpha Bear has 450 billion HP. Unless you are in your server’s top 100, the extra few million damage you squeeze out with a perfect team will not meaningfully speed up the server kill. Your reliable, practical goal is to complete your daily attacks and survive the full 90-second battle. Doing so awards you the 20x Chests, which represent roughly 95% of the rewards you can realistically obtain from this event. Chasing a 21st chest requires orders of magnitude more damage for negligible gain.

    To survive and still deal enough damage, you want a balanced team with strong sustain, a durable tank, and a single-target damage dealer. The following primary setup works well for most mid-to-casual players:

    • Thoran – tanks the boss’s focus and applies debuffs.
    • Smokey & Meerky – provides healing and the Mauler faction bonus.
    • Odie – your main damage dealer; the higher his ascension, the better.
    • Korin – deals damage and shields allies, especially useful at Mythic+ or higher.
    • Koko – reduces damage taken and drains life from the boss, helping everyone stay alive.
    • Artifact: Awakening Artifact boosts survivability, but you can swap it for a damaging artifact if your team feels safe.

    If you have a high-ascended Vala and a copy of Reinier, you can replace Odie and Koko with these two. Vala excels at single-target burst (especially with good EX and Focus investment), while Reinier acts as an enabler and support even at low ascension. Keep Thoran, Smokey & Meerky, and Korin in the same roles. Use the same artifact advice.

    The survival-first approach

    For 95% of the rewards, you don’t need a highly optimized team. Just pick a strong healer like Smokey, Hewyn, or Rowan, add a tank that can stay alive (Thoran with revive or Brutus with invincibility work great), and slot in your highest ascended damage dealer regardless of whether they are AoE or single-target. That composition will easily survive the 90 seconds and secure the 20 chests.

    Where team building actually matters

    If you want to invest in teams that meaningfully improve your rewards, focus on Dream Realm bosses like Skyclops, King Croaker, Snow Stomer, and Necrodragon. Unlike Primal Lords, your performance there directly correlates with reward tiers, making team composition and hero investment far more impactful.
